The Brookfield Romney flock is now run in partnership with Michael and Vicky Cottrill at Taihape. This 1600 acre property is at Omatane 20km south east of Taihape and is a med/steep hill country block which can be very wet in winter but also very dry in summer. So it is a good testing ground for the constitution of the elite ewe flock. The ewes are unsheperded and lambs tagged and docked at 14 days old.

The ewe flock is very clear faced, good bone, medium size with great depth and width. Emphasis is still on the main profitability trait, constitution, fertility and growth rates with yield. After ten years breeding sires for meat yield it has really made a difference. All ewe hoggets are mated and our genetic gain has increased dramatically since our involvement with the Trigg group.
