After breeding for 53 years at Hiwinui the Stewart family shifted their Romney breeding operation to the hills of Pongaroa. With most New Zealand sheep now farmed on hill country it is a reality that Rams should be sourced from similar country. From 2007 the Hiwinui flock at Pongaroa will be under management of Forbes Minto. Forbes has a lifetime of being involved in the sheep industry, working up from shepherding positions in NZ and Australia to a landcorp manager into owning his own properties. Dave and Tim Stewart will still be very involved with the Hiwinui flock at Pongaroa, With Tim being in charge of the genetic recording.
