Trigg Romney Stud Breeders

Traditionally the Romney has been seen as a dual-purpose breed where emphasis is placed on both wool and meat production. Its place in the New Zealand sheep industry has been as a dam breed with which terminal sires are crossed to produce prime lambs. The breeds influence in prime lamb production has been primarily through the number of lambs born and pre-weaning lamb growth via milk production,.

In 1999 a group of Romney stud breeders from the greater Feilding area identified maximising income from the sale of prime lambs as a key requirement of their commercial clients. This group was TRIGG and was made up of the following breeders:

Richard Brown – Banklea

Ross, Wendy and Damien Humphrey  -  Brookfield

Dave & Tim Stewart  -  Hiwinui

Terry & Lesley Clare  -  Horeka

Rachel and Rick Pettigrew – Te Ohu
